ACEO - Tiny Lida - original oil pastel portrait

This little portrait is on an Art Spectrum Colourfix ATC card.  There is a white border around the  surface - all the Colourfix paper has this border - very helpful when you frame your piece.   Such a wonderful surface to work on - Colourfix is great for oil pastel because it has just enough grit and accepts many layers.  It's quite a challenge to get a picture on such a small surface when using unsharpened oil pastels, but this practice keeps me from being so tight and helps me focus on the essentials of the drawing.  It's 3.5 x 2.5 inches - thanks for stopping by!

Lady in a Hat - original oil pastel Artist Trading Card

I love doing these tiny "just a taste" cards.  This one is done on Art Spectrum Colourfix - my favorite surface for these little 3.5 x 2.5" pieces.  I used unsharpened Sennelier oil pastels - makes it looser and no way can I get it too tight.  Thanks for looking!

Girl in a Big Hat - original oil pastel figurative miniature painting

This little tiny thing was fun and challenging to paint, especially since it is only 3.5 x 2.5" and I did it with unsharpened oil pastels.  I purposely didn't sharpen them, as I think it makes the painting looser.  I once had an art professor who said that he had a student in the class who was very tight and one who was very loose.  I was the loose one and I still am.  Sometimes, I think it's because I like to leave a lot unsaid - even in life.  My husband might disagree.  I really do think that's the basis for looseness.  Mine, anyway.  You've probably heard of artist trading cards - that's what this is.  It's done on Colourfix paper.  I've been doing bunches of these.  The pose pleased me so much that I think I'll redo it in a larger size.  Thanks so much for stopping by! Another Woman with a Fan - original oil figurative painting by Connie Chadwell

Just a little fun thing - I love turquoise/aqua/green and with an art supply order a couple of months ago, I got a free 7 x 5" stretched linen.  So, I just fooled around with this color I'm so crazy about.  Lots of fun with brushstrokes!  I always like to paint on linen, but this surface has an especially wonderful feel.  I can't remember the brand right now, so I'll have to go through my receipts to see who made this gem and then I'll let you know.

Backward Glance - original oil portrait painting by Connie Chadwell

This painting was sort of a difficult pose to paint, I think, but I'm pleased with the outcome.  It's from a line drawing that I did and for the life of me, I can't remember who or where the model was.  Scary!
This painting is 8 x 10" on linen.  Thanks for visiting my blog!

Portrait Practice - original oil portrait painting by Connie Chadwell

Here's something I did on Saturday afternoon. The drawing was done from life and using the drawing as a model, I painted this very quickly, with a limited palette, as a practice piece.
As much as I like value changes, this one doesn't have a wide range of values - kind of soft. It's probably good to do something different for a change. It's 5 x 5" on Gessobord.
Thanks so much for visiting!

Portrait of Lee - original oil portrait painting by Connie Chadwell

SOLD

This painting is based on a drawing I did in a life drawing group. I loved the model's pose, but I concentrated on her face, rather than the whole figure. Upturned faces are such a challenge!

I just love green, especially in skin colors. And with green, ya gotta have red. So I did Lee's skin in a little exaggeration of green with some red.
It's on 6 x 6" Gessobord.
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog!
