Tango Shorthand - original ink figurative drawing

I came across this 7 x 5" ink drawing today - I think it's on watercolor paper - and don't even remember making it.  I know I have used this pose - if you can tell there's a pose here (haha) - in paintings, but being such a fan of squiggly line drawings, this little piece just makes me smile.  Thanks for stopping by!

Tango in Blues and Greys - original watercolor pencil figurative drawing

More of my latest obsession - the lines and softness of watercolor pencil - this stuff doesn't behave, which is part of the fun.  My fixation will pass - but in the meantime, I'm loving it!  This one is also on Yupo, about 11 x 8".  Next time I use the pencils, I may use gessoed paper just to see how that works.  So many choices, so little time.  Thanks for looking!

On My Easel -Sketch for Tango Practice - original oil pastel drawing

Here is a sketch for another tango painting - oil pastel on Pastelbord.  After fooling around with this one, I think I will do the painting in oil, full length, with the models using their arms in positions opposite this one.  Just afraid of losing the emotion, though.  It's 9 x 12" - a size I love to work with - thanks so much for dropping by!

On My Easel - Sketch of Dancers - original oil pastel figurative sketch

I am sort of obsessed with the way this woman has her arm around this guy - a 'hold' I guess I'd call it.  Lately, I've done a bunch of drawings of women with their arms like this, so I guess that amounts to an obsession.  It will pass.  Thanks for stopping by!

Another Little Tango - original oil figurative painting

This little painting was done on 5 x 5" Gessobord, while I was listening to a Victorian mystery.  There's nothing Victorian about tango - for sure!  For this post, I unearthed a sketch that I did years ago at a tango demonstration and did a really, really quick rendition of the drawing with oil paint.  Thanks so much for stopping by!  And please check out my oil pastel blog.  Sold

Tango in Charcoal - original charcoal figurative drawing

It seems like years since I've posted - much has been going on, such as trying to get a new website up and running.  It's really, really hard when you have absolutely no talent for that kind of thing.  Even the drag and drop is a challenge for me.  Don't laugh.  It's true.
This drawing is vine charcoal on Strathmore 400 drawing paper and is about 10 x 6 1/2".  I've drawn several somewhat similar to this, but trying to "explain" the woman's leg position is tricky and I'm really pleased with this one.   My love affair with charcoal continues - so sensitive, so responsive.  Truly a dream medium.  Thanks so much for dropping by!  Now, it's back to the website.  Or maybe not.

Dance With Me - WIP oil figurative sketch

I've been away for several days and am only now getting back to painting.  However, when I got to my studio today, I realized that I had left my oil paints behind so I resorted to using oil sticks - not oil pastels - but oil paint in a stick.  I didn't finish this sketch, and I don't know that I will do anything more to it.  It's just a painting of the moment and it's okay with me to leave it this way - really I do like things sort of unfinished.  Tomorrow, back to tube paints and brushes.  I drew/painted this on 10 x 8" archival canvas board.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Tango Doodle - original oil pastel figurative drawing

I just wanted to do a drawing - lots of black lines and scribbled color and done quickly without a lot of thought. It's just so satisfying! This oil pastel is on 12 x 9" Pastelbord sand (color) which is a dark taupey shade. Really beautiful and a delight to work on. Thanks so much for stopping by - have a great weekend!
